Dehradun Tibetan Settlement Marks World Environment Day and Year of Compassion with Large-Scale Cleanliness Drive

Dehradun: As World Environment Day is observed annually on 5 June, and as part of the celebrations marking the 90th Birth Anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the Dehradun Ghoton Committee conducted a large-scale environmental clean-up drive earlier this morning, beginning at 7:00 AM.

Residents of the Dekyiling and Gepheling Tibetan communities cleaned the roadsides from Pacific Golf Estate to IT Park. Staff of the Rajpur Tibetan Women’s Cooperative Factory, together with members of the Rajpur scattered Tibetan community, cleaned the entire stretch of road from Rajpur to Mussoorie.

Tsering Dhonden Tibetan community settlement carried out a clean-up of the forested areas surrounding the settlement, while the Dhondupling Tibetan community cleaned the forests and surrounding areas near their settlement. Scattered Tibetan residents living in Mussoorie also participated in cleaning Dalai Hill. Following the clean-up drive, tea, water, and samosas were served to participants.

In preparation for the programme, a planning meeting was held on the morning of 2 June with members of the Dehradun Ghoton Committee. Under the guidance and supervision of Settlement Officer Tsewang Phuntsok, the meeting thoroughly discussed implementation plans and assigned responsibilities for the drive. An upcoming tree-planting programme was also discussed.
